An insight in to how one company went from enthusiasm to despondency in a matter of days. Make sure your telemarketer knows what they are talking about.

Earlier this week I was discussing marketing options with one of my customers. It seems not all telemarketers are the same!  Read on for more details.

So you arrive at the time where your business could really do with a boost. All the elements are in place, you have a great web site, your product range is good and your capacity to take on new customers is strong.

Telemarketing is a great avenue for some businesses, especially if it’s coupled with a targeted pay per click campaign, a snappy landing page and a well-structured email follow up policy. The process would include warming prospects using online marketing, social media and email marketing, followed by telephone calls to generate appointments and interest with your prospective customers.

Having trawled through the internet pages for suitable companies to help with this process, a number of quotations were received all promising to generate untold levels of conversion, lots of potential customers and great coverage in the market place to boot. It’s all so exciting!

But wait: isn’t it all just too good to be true? To clarify the points within these quotations one or two phone calls had to be made, remembering that so far all of the work has been done online and through email.

Despondency sets in

You find yourself speaking to the one person that just so happens to know nothing of what their own company has to offer; Doesn’t this strike you as a little odd? You move on to the next quotation and make the phone call. The same result, each time it’s the same deal; ‘I need to speak to my colleagues about this, I will phone you back tomorrow’ the question that springs to mind is why can’t you speak to the colleague direct?

Whilst you’ve been so excited about telemarketing and driven on by the well-structured quotations and proposals, it pays to make a few calls of your own just to ask questions, you may find your enthusiasm beginning to wane as you find that answers are difficult to obtain. In some instance the reply phone call was never received.

There you have it, an insight into how your potential telemarketer is going to deal with your highly valued customer enquiries. They may generate one or two leads, but how many did they actually lose? Shop around to be certain that your telemarketer has your best interests at heart. They are not all the same and this is an expensive investment.
